A new study was published this month on the Research in Sports Medicine Journal with a validation of the Fitmate Canopy Hood system for measuring Resting metabolic rate.
The purpose of this study, performed by the Northern Illinois University, was to compare the Fitmate with the previously validated Quark CPET research system (Blond et al., 2011) using a canopy dilution set-up in healthy adults.
The test showed that FitMate was a highly reliable indirect calorimetry system for measuring RMR and provided equivalent results to the Quark CPET system.
The study conclusions state that "FITMATE plus canopy hood set-up was shown to accurately measure RMR and oxygen consumption. Thus, the FITMATE appears to be an excellent tool for assessing RMR measurements in healthy adults with the added benefit that it can also reliably measure submaximal and maximal exercising metabolism".
